Carlyle’s Young Rink win the 1952 Carspiel

In 1952 the family rink consisting of Archie Young (Father) and brothers Howard, Ron and Bill won the Nipawin Curling Bonspiel or as it was called, the “Carspiel”.

This was an annual event from 1947-1954 and is credited with the first widespread newspaper and radio coverage of a curling event.

It was considered the”richest bonspiel in the Dominion” and attracted the best curlers from across Canada.

In the photo left to right are Archie Young, Howard Young, Ron Young and Bill Young.

Archie won a Ford,  Howard’s car was a Plymouth,Ron’s car was a Dodge and Bill’s was a Meteor. (1952 models)
